Franz Josef Glacier, New Zealand

Franz Josef Glacier

It's hard to imagine the difference in scenery from where I am now. Currently I am sitting at the airport in Hue waiting for a flight to Saigon, a place of some 10 million people, heat and humidity.

Whilst in NZ I talked my way on to a helicopter flight up to the glacier and traipsed over it wearing crampons for the first time in my life. It was an incredibly surreal experience to see the expanse of the glacier from a helicopter and then to be crunching across the ice, through tunnels of blue ice, wearing claws on my feet.

if you ever get the chance I highly recommend it!
