The Mekong Delta known as Cuu Long or the 9 Headed Dragon is the "rice bowl" of Vietnam. For the first time ever, Vietnam exported more rice than Thailand. Sure, that may have something to do with the amount of flooding that took place in Thailand last year but the Vietnamese don't care about that! The river brings silt all the way from Tibet and that silt makes the soil perfect for rice and fruit plantations. Boats of all kinds abound, nothing looks overly seaworthy yet it was these boats that people fled from Vietnam in when times were rough.
